        1. By doing it whenever I wanted to know what a Japanese text was saying hah, I got better at it and especially after I started translating.
          I use a translation tool to help me with all the vocabulary. Any vernacular/difficult words I search on a Japanese online vernacular dictionary(I basically then translate the dictionary entry!)
          Once I got good at it it’s not difficult at all, and the grammar makes sense.
          Then I double and tripe check everything to make sure I don’t make a mistake. After that I rewrite everything to be enjoyable to read in English, sometimes moving details from one sentence to another, without changing the meanings(except sometimes where necessary for reader’s understanding).

    You’re great! your translations are really good and you know how to convert emotions into your sentences and i can understand how hard it is since its from japanes and japanese is completely different than english what makes it hard to translate without losing the real meaning of it.

    But you’re doing an amazing job , because i can understand and follow the story perfectly.

    Thank you for your hard work and keep it up, but please dont overwork yourself.

    im really enjoying reading everyday your translations but i’d recommend doing it weekly and split a chapter in 2 instead of 6 (depends on the lenght of a chapter)
    So its probably easier for you to work on it and convey the emotions and meanings into your sentences since you have more time doing so 😀
    if you’ve got a good routine and are getting faster then you can probably do 1 chapter a week just like a weekly manga
    if you’re happy with the way you’re doing it now then of course there is no need to change 🙂

      I’m glad you’re enjoying it!

      I want to release daily so that everyone can have something to look forward to every day! It’ll take me the same amount to translate them all anyway, so might as well release it as soon as I finish a section.
      I know how bad it feels to not see updates for a few days, so I want to avoid that if possible.

      Each one of the segments take about 7 hours or so to get to a finished version… actually how did I even manage to do it so far? Haha it’s cutting into a bit of sleep time I guess.
      Some days when I have to go to work I won’t be able to release, but I’ll try to keep it at no less than one release every two days while I aim for one per day.

        But reading that you’re working like 7-8 hours on these segments i was worried about you overworking yourself and losing at some point your motivation.
        thats why i said it would be better doing it weekly
        BUT i see there is no need to worry because you need to love the Series very much so you can have fun doing that much work 🙂

        1. I am getting a bit faster, if I don’t get stumped by a segment like yesterday’s. My first drafts are smoother than they used to be. I’m translating the sentences positively right away, instead of literally translating the often negative structure of the original Japanese.
          Today’s segment is quite a bit shorter, so I’ll start on 6/6 once this one is done.

  10. Just one question, the interlude you started with, isn’t it the second one? I believe there’s an interlude prior to that called moments inside the dragon carriage, which is where Subaru first finds out about Rem’s fate. Did you skip it?

I believe he said he skipped it because he felt that the second one flowed better, along with the fact that apparently the third interlude apparently recalls all of what happened in the first through exposition so it was unnecessary. He did say he might go back and translate the first part if he gets ahead of schedule though.

    2. Interlude I is composed entirely of unimportant banter and cuts off right at the cliffhanger in the end. After I saw that it wasn’t included in the Anime, I re-read everything and felt the story continues more beautifully without it, since Interlude I is more suited as a cliffhanger ending than as a beginning.

      Interlude II draws the reader’s interest since it’s about Rem, who we haven’t seen since she left a few episodes ago, so everyone would be wondering. Then half way through it explodes into action. The storytelling and the action of Interlude II is just pure brilliance, and is set in flashback so there is no worry of missing information, so I think it’s a much better introduction to the WN than Interlude I.

      Interlude III then ties everything together from the end point of the Anime(including Interlude I) to the present moment, so no information is lost.

      2. I thought that was the best episode of anime I had ever seen. If you turn off subtitles and watch and listen to Sloth’s ranting, the fights, the character’s emotions and actions, oh man that was a truly impressive work of art. Then the ending, holding the shot for the whole dramatic music piece. I love it. When I finally make my wall art TV that will be one of the scenes it holds from time to time. The falling head and the falling snow, oh man, my brain trembles, I have to go watch it again.

    You’re doing me and all of the other Re:Zero fans that only speak English a HUGE favor. Seriously — without you, I would have to wait probably 5 years for Yen Press to translate the Light Novels, or wait 2 or so years for White Fox to make a season 2, assuming they will at some point. It included these instructions, “I would recommend throwing this ‘summary’ at someone who has a less meagre grasp of Japanese, an excess of free time, and a haritable personality and pestering them to rectify my fuckups.”

    On a completely unrelated note, do you think you could combine all of the different parts of each chapter into one post after you finish them? It seems like it’ll get awkward after awhile if each chapter remains split among a bunch of different posts.

    1. Oh thanks for that I’ll take a look! But I’ll still need to be reading through the Japanese word by word in the end to translate so not sure if a summary would help.

      I link the next section at the end of each release… maybe I should move the link to right after the divider to make it even easier to navigate!

      Right now the separate sections all have pictures which help the storytelling, might not feel as natural if its in the middle of a block of text.

  34. Hey quick question, I’ve learned Hiragana so far and lots of people say kanji is very difficult, so why is most Japanese text in Kanji? I go on the web novel sight and a lot is Kanji. (I believe)

    1. The Kanji characters have intrinsic meaning and makes reading-comprehension a lot easier…I think. It’s basically Chinese, where everything is Kanji. (Kanji is the Japanese word for “Chinese character” and the word itself is written in Chinese characters which is pretty funny)

    1. I recommend starting from Interlude II, the story progresses much more beautifully that way.
      Interlude I only contains banter and ends with a cliffhanger, which is good as a cliffhanger ending, but not good as a beginning. I think it will make a lot of people stop reading since there is no action in Interlude I.
      Interlude II does the reveal far better.
      Everything is explained in Interlude III, not Interlude I, so you won’t miss anything.

    1. If you can give me feed back after reading I’ll really appreciate it! I usually care more about effect than proper grammar though, but needless and unintentional mistakes I’ll fix!
      I have a pretty weird schedule so I usually release as soon as I’m satisfied with a translation, and then scramble for 10 minutes to fix any typos and missed words I suddenly noticed.

I know you have your hands full trying to translate each chapter in the first place, and I understand why you’re doing it in parts (so you can get out consistent releases), but when you are done with each chapter, why not combine the parts?   78. Anyone else here thinks that Satella give Subaru the Return to Death ability so that he can save Emilia from dying until the time comes that she can be Satella’s Vessel? What if it is really meant for Subaru to fall inlove to Emilia since Satella wants to be loved? therefore she is the best candidate to became a vessel…and then Emilia will become the ruler of Lugunica…do i make sense?

  119. I thought that last one seemed a bit long and although I loved it I think you should continue doing it in intervals. Otherwise others like myself will be thrown off and it gives us something to look forward to day by day instead of the longer wait. Either way keep up the awesome work.

  131. I don’t know if it’s appropriate but I largely preferred when you released chapters parts by parts, as we always have some ReZero content to have !

    But that’s only my opinion. Maybe some people actually prefer to wait 1 week to have something.

    Would you consider releasing chapters as you did in the past (less content but more often) ?
    Or will you continue to release entire chapters as you do it now (more content but less often) ?

Translating is something people get paid to do as a profession, and you guys have spent so much free time into doing this for us. Rest up so you don’t die, and make sure to take care of yourselves. Hey guys, I know everyone’s already been telling you to make sure you get some sleep and to not overwork yourselves, but I just wanted to give you some advice on how to manage this translation project. When I wanted to read the Shinsekai Yori original novel, I looked and looked for an English translation and could only find this one good fan-made one (b/c no official English one) here: http://shinsekai.cadet-nine.org/ .

    The translator on this project worked alone on translating what seems to be a ~500 page novel and was really only able to get through it by setting up a manageable schedule for it. They only translated like a single page a day until they were finally done, posting the day’s translations as they went. They would get some editing advice from other people posting comments on the post, too, so much of what they did was only translating a relatively small portion at once. I don’t really want to tell you how to do this, but I think an approach like this might be better for you guys; it would at least be more manageable and less stressful than what you seem to be doing currently.

    Based on a couple of your add-on comments to some of the chapters, you have spent more than once staying up very late trying to translate and edit a huge portion of text all at once, rather than breaking it up into smaller segments. I want you to think about maybe implementing a more manageable schedule system where you only work on it for an hour or two at most when you can, because this will quickly turn into something you don’t enjoy doing if you only do it in huge chunks and it starts impacting other areas of your life. Please think about maintaining your health and a healthy work/life balance so you don’t burn out and start resenting doing something that should be relatively fun and fulfilling. Get well soon.

      You’re quite right, I started translating because I enjoy it, and kept going because it was making people’s days a little happier and that made it all the more fun.
      When I feel tired it’s hard to focus and I really wasn’t sure if I could do a good job. But just know that I’ll always come back and keep going as long as there are people wanting to read.

      Page by page scheduled translation is quite a good idea. It’s given me an idea just now, I could release small chunks on Patreon as soon as I finish it, and then when there is enough for a segment I can then release them together on translationchicken.

      That Shinsekai Yori translation looks beautiful… I only watched half way through that anime years before. I’m going to start reading it I think!

    1. The Anime is based on the LN with some cuts. The Manga is not related to the the Anime, and is only based on the LN with some differences.
      The LN is based on the WN, and is almost identical. The plot is the same with some updates on details and generally shortened overall.

      The most significant change in Arc 3 was that two shorter WN Betelgeuse-battle loops were combined into one LN loop(the Episode 22 one), so Subaru died one less time. But this didn’t have an impact on the plot.

      1. This chapter is 5000 words and about 11 pages.
        I will release them together as a larger segment once I get there. But posting the pages as I go is quite nice.
        The translation still goes at the same speed, but working in smaller chunks helps me quite a bit, and I can post the progress s soon as a page is done :3

      2. Because it’s animated after the light novel, this one is the web novel. Even if they’re the same in content, the light novel is sold and needs some space to sell and incentive the market. If there was an anime so fast, there would be no need for a light novel to be serialized. The light novel isn’t far from where the Chicken is at already, too. Let’s speculate that in 2018 there would be enough space for a sequel if the studios sees fit.

    The first Interlude, in my opinion, is very important. After I caught up, I decided to read it to see what I missed out on and I desperately wished I read that first. As it is, you don’t read Interlude II with the sense of dread and uneasiness that the author intended because you don’t have that cliffhanger. People want the next chapter part ASAP, of course, and you already have a lot of work so I don’t think it’d be in anyone’s interests to have you translate it, but just linking to the version in the translation compilation (https://docs.google.com/document/d/1ija_k96Y0lPBwF1cjdkLqtkEPNK573coXuxd3Htweag/edit) would do a lot of favors, I think. I know I desperately wish I read it first and feel rather unfortunate to not have.

  244. Hey nugget! Your drafts are improving greatly, almost can’t tell what needs to be improved apart from some really obvious mistakes that still can be understood with ease. Maybe you won’t need to be so concerned about the edits since the drafts getting better means that the edit will be easier and faster!
    I also worked as anime subtitle translator (to portuguese), and the first attemps took me 3-5 hours a full episode, but after a while I was taking 1-2 hours at higher quality and demanding every time less editing. So the tendency is to get better, and to not give up, sometimes 2-3 days at break and you’ll be missing the feeling of the thing.
    Just to let you know that your work, amazing from the very beginning, just keeps getting better. Don’t let the ever incresing amount of readers thirsty for more content and complaining somewhere get to you, they don’t mean any harm and just want to read more, like anyone else.
    Cheers, you make my day a lot better every time there`s a new draft or release up to read.

(reading the live draft). it’s possible roswaal was one of the archbishop of sin. this would make sense since it looks like he doesn’t want to confront/battle with the other archbishop thus a blackbook (probably a gospel 101%) in his possesion. and with that nature of his, he could be PRIDE.

    on the contrary. he may have been killed PRIDE. well this statement makes no sense for me. since i think subaru can’t use the black book but it looks like roswaal could use it. so i think that roswaal is another archbishop is possible.

    1. Roswaal, Roswaal… being a dick to Subaru was not probably a good idea, no matter what your Gospel tells you.
      He also said in was an improved version of what Cult has. Could it actually be SUBARU’s Gospel, the one describing his future or the right choices he has to take to survive?
      Roswaal clearly knew the kid will make it, but he doesn’t seam to know what he has been through to get there. Thus he probably doesn’t understand that making himself responsible for Rem’s sacrifice in Subaru’s eyes might be shooting himself in the leg in the long run.

I’m looking to see if I can find any fan translation of the light novel volume 3 but I haven’t found anything. I’m hesitant to go watch the anime as it sounds like it’s further then where I am and I vastly prefer to find out through reading rather than watching.

Sadly I’ve been unable to but if anyone knows where a fan English translation for either Light Novel Volume 3 or Arc 2 are I’d appreciate learning.

    2. It is actually illegal to translate a light novel, as it is a published book. The light novel is the edited version and shorter version of the Web novel, which is free and not copyrighted. Try out the anime, it was really good :.)

    1. It’s not near the end, the WN is planned to be 11 arcs, it’s only at arc 6. The Anime took up the entirety of last year and the year before, it makes sense that Tappei would be busy.

      Tappei has repeatedly confirmed that the ReZero WN will continue. In his stickied post on his Twitter he is saying that he will continue writing the WN after he finishes the loads of work he has at the moment.

  280. Hey Chicken, there’s no need for everything to be round perfect. Only a proofread and a quick edit and it’s already great. Even your drafts are perfectly readable. Since we got so much content ahead, grasping to straws shouldn’t be an essential step right now. Maybe hire some english-natives for proofread/qc and it will only need edit on very few parts of the chapter and you’ll get small fixes and nitpicks done way faster, so you can easier focus on translation of new content.
    I’m just loving all of these, thank you for being so amazing!

      If I release something I’m not satisfied with, the work as a whole becomes less meaningful, I feel. I am always thinking of ways to get there faster though. :3

    1. I’m learning Japanese myself at the moment, and I have a few tips.

      Use flashcards to learn to read Hiragana and Katakana (an app called Kana Town is great), and practice writing afterwards.

      I highly recommend using an app (or the website) called WaniKani to learn Kanji. They start with the radicals, and use mnemonics to help you remember both looks and readings.

      A person named Tae Kim has created a good guide to Japanese grammar, and the “Genki” series (which are made for school) can be good for learning useful phrases and expanding your vocabulary.

    2. I reached my level of Japanese by trying to read Re:Zero, haha. I have a firm understanding of Chinese, which makes all the kanji characters easily readable. So I tried learning the rest of the vocabulary as I go, and search up dictionaries for what I don’t know. I’m not good verbally, since I haven’t memorized all the pronunciations for the kanji characters.

  293. So I just finished the anime and I was clamoring for me. When i heard that the anime was based on a light novel i went searching. The thing is I became pretty confused by what I found. I found there was a web novel and a light novel. Can anyone tell me what the difference is? Is the series still ongoing in a web novel format or is it light novel?

    1. Web novel is the rough draft. Light novel is the finalized version in print which the anime is then based off of. Both the web novel and light novels are ongoing. The web novels most recent chapter is chapter 28 of Arc 6, published on Feb. 25, 2017. The anime adapted arcs 1-3, volumes 1-9, minus the last few chapters of volume 9 and Arc 3 which are the interlude chapters you see at the very top of this page. Arc 4 in the light novels currently consists of volumes 10-12 with volume 12 being released March 25, 2017.

He agreed in a way when he said he’ll tell Emilia about them, and right after the Whale battle when Rem pretended to be dying, he told her he won’t let anyone else have her because she was his and his alone. This wasn’t shown in the anime unfortunately, but it was in both the WN and the LN.

I place the English Auto-translate text below the Japanese in the draft for reference and to pull words from and save time on dictionary lookups, and also have Japanese online dictionary(Weblio), a Japanese-Chinese online Auto-translator(which is better at dissecting difficult Japanese sentences than JP-EN), as well as an online Thesaurus open in a separate browser.

After all, there are 200 + chapters to go and counting, that’s a crazy task you are taking on. Of course you already have your buddies, but the more, the merrier, right? Or is it too many chefs ruins the soup? I don’t know what you think about that, and I sure would love to. (no rush though, I’m happy with even just a section a week 🙂

I remember when I first found you, I got annoyed by not being able to have the entire chapter on one screen.     1. Yes, I 100% approve this idea. Some people might say that this will make pages longer, but I think that this is what Nagatsuki-san would want… He posted chapters in one piece. If different parts were translated by different parties, then you could mention them below or above the chapter, Chicken-sensei. 🙂

    1. No you don’t have to read it! If in a few months you see fans going insane about Rem waking up then start reading it, otherwise avoid the spoilers.
      There was a lot of hype over this chapter after it was released, and it has a twist at the end that has huge implications on the rest of Arc 6 or possibly even on the rest of the story.
      But definitely avoid the spoilers if you have not been spoiled.
      Back before the anime ended, I was spoiled on the very broad plot points on the Wiki summary, so I know what generally happens but not how it will happen, which is more important.
      So while the spoilers in the new chapter won’t interfere with my enjoyment of the story, it will for anyone who has not been spoiled of the plot.
      SO DON’T DO IT

    I’m wondering if it would be possible to divide the website a bit.
    You could for example have the Table of Contents link to the arcs (which contains the chapters), instead of the chapters themselves. I think this is something you’d probably do eventually anyways (since this page is going to become insanely long if you don’t), and now might be a good time to do something like that.

    Then there could also be separate comment secttions for Arc 4 and Arc 6, while this comment section could stay as it is. Not to forget that the titles of chapters can sometimes spoil a bit themselves, which is something we can avoid if Arc 6 isn’t on the same page as Arc 4.

    Hope you’ll take this into consideration.

    1. Chicken is translating Arc 4 and Arc 6 seperately – Arc 4 is where we’re at from progressign after the anime, while Arc 6 is where the actual WN is at, like where the latest releases are. It’s for those who either don’t care about spoiler or who have struggled their way through the Japanese version of the WN, making it easier for those people to read what’s going on at this point in time.

      So basically, there is an arc 5 but chicken decided to translate some arc 6 stuff for those who are ahead of the rest of us.

      I think it should depend on whether you have been exposed to spoilers:
      If you can name 3 major spoilers that took place Arc 5-6, and 3 normal spoilers about Arc 4 then my opinion is that you can read it.

  410. Just thinking Chicken, now that you’ve quit your job, and considering the chapters average at 10 pages each, shouldn’t you be able to translate full chapters daily?

    It’s understandable if you still have stuff to take care of regarding the change in your everyday life, but will this be possible once you’ve settled down?

    1. It takes an average of an hour or more to translate a page properly. If I speed up more than that, I will need to return for heavier editing.
      Some days I spend 14 hours a day to get chapters out but if I have a schedule of one chapter a day I won’t be enjoying e story and enjoying life that way.

      There is a reason I started on Arc 6 Ch 33 specifically. After you read the chapter you will understand why.

  432. People seem to have skipped Chicken’s spoiler-free note of Arc 6. Chicken is NOT skipping Arc 5, nor is he neglecting Arc 4. He’s translating Arc 6 because he believes that it’s EXTREMELY important and worth doing so. He’s translating the Arc 6 chapters as they come out, as he thinks the story will hit a very important note or be affected dramatically. While he takes breaks from Arc 4 to translate Arc 6, he will not be ignoring all chapters leading up to then. He’s simply providing what he believes will be important (Arc 6) while still continuing with the story. He has said he will be translating all of Re: Zero, (Arc 4 and on[if you didn’t say that then oops]) so people can put aside their worries of him skipping to Arc 6 and not translating what’s before it. I’ve seen comments recently where people seem confused, I hope this clears it up for them

    1. Dude, don’t be a spoiled brat. He physically can’t traslate a chapter every 2 days just to please your spoiled ass. If season 2 ever comes out, it will probably come out waaay before Chicken manages to translate the entirety of Arc 4 or 5. If you feel like that’s too much time to wait, then learn Japanese yourself and read all the chapters. You should be grateful that there’s that poor bastard of Chicken doing all the work FREE for you. It’s people like you that make translators hate their job

      2. While I would agree that Semiyan is being impatient, you aren’t doing yourself any favors by misrepresenting the situation. Chicken isn’t doing this for free. He’s making enough money off this through Patreon that he felt comfortable enough to quit his job to do this full time. As of right now he gets $1,012 a month solely to translate the series. Of course not everyone reading is paying in, but to promote is as something he’s doing for free out of the goodness of his heart is just as disingenuous and unhelpful.

      5. One thing I find weird with this situation is that even though he quit his job, the rate of which translations of chapters are uploaded hasn’t really changed.
        This is probably the cause of two factors.
        1. Now that translation is his main source of income, he feels as if he needs to ensure better quality and therefore he’s taking more time to translate each chapter.
        2. The amount of time he’s putting into translating hasn’t changed as much as one would believe.

        While I do find this understandable, I also find it a bit disappointing to know that he’ll end up using more time translating Arc 4 and Arc 5 than what the author used to write those arcs.

        1. I haven’t properly explained the reasons why I couldn’t be as fast as I could be this month, but it’s rather personal so I don’t want to explain.

          This month I tried my best to ensure a full chapter a week without compromising the quality but it’s not the speed I want to go at. But I’m feeling better, and I will aim to go at the speed I want to achieve in August.

          For some perspective, the process of completing a chapter translation from beginning to end takes 30 hours, the actual progress through the chapter is about 20 of that, editing throughout adds up to more than 6 hours in total, sometimes a lot more. A single read through while revising is already more than an hour.

          An introductory fulltime job in Canada is 40 hours per week with a salary of $2000-3000 a month. So I am not translating to make money. It will put my career on hold, in fact. But I am absolutely fortunate and overwhelmed to be able to do something I love with my time, and I have no complaints.

          2 chapters a week without impacting the quality is the speed I hope to release at, so we’ll see how August turns out.

    1. I don’t think a lot of people appreciate that he is human, he has a life, he has feelings, and he has limits. Deciding to try to dedicate more time to translating was probably a bit of a mistake because I’ve gotten the feeling that he’s over worked himself. We don’t know the details of his personal life, and we shouldn’t, but it doesn’t stop people complaining, getting angry and pressuring him. Just leave him be, guys, let him get to it when he can.

  510. Just had the greatest Rezero fan theory. In the anime it can be noticed that not only is Satella described to look like emila, the voices are nearly identical. Also in the translation we can see that there is a point where Satella is obsessing over her love for Subaru. Taking all this into mind I came up with a theory. The only way that she had enough time to fall in love was to get to know him. However no time passes(supposedly) between the convience store and the parallel world. So what is Emila does something in the future that sends Subaru back to when they first met and she gets sent back to the far past and creates the facade of Satella. And the reason I though of this was what sounds more Re:Zero than Subaru having to let go of the one he loves. (Side note haven’t read past arc 4 so there may be answers there I just haven’t read there yet. )

      1. A fascinating thought: The Rem IF chapters are canon, they just skipped over the loop where that happened and kept it as a side-story.
        Based on how RBD seems to work, it’s probably safe to assume that he’d return to Mr. Savepoint after dying in that storyline as well.

        (PS: That would make Subaru’s thoughts during his confession scene after the battle with the White Whale be very out of place, but it’s still an interesting idea)

    1. It’s not lying, it’s misinforming.
      Everyone here is a grownup, I believe, so we all must understand that translations take a lot of time and mental effort. Yes, it is a pleasure to translate the story you like, but just as sex, there can be too much of it. It’s no wonder that with time translating slips down the priority list, but complaining here is not going to move it up either.
      I personally do not want Chicken to burn out on us. That’s gonna be the worst Dead End. So I’m Ok with one chapter a week. Though I do admit I chuckle each time I see notions like “making a sandwich, brb” and just go to sleep.

    2. I hope you guys could tolerate it when it happens. There will always be a new chapter finished every week unless something really screws up. I write the notes based on my predictions at the time, and I didn’t want to change it every time.
      The thing is, the final part of the chapter would still be released on about the same day, it’s just that the timing of the first few parts are shifted when I need some time to prioritize my studies and for some of the other things I need to do.
      There are also days when anxiety and depression kicks in and nothing I translate would be any good. I try to deep read and prepare when that happens so that the translation could be smoother once I’m ready to post the draft.

  515. People are over here and over there complaining about Chicken’s speed of translating or the breaks in between some chapters. We, as viewers, need to realize that what Chicken does is still voluntary. If he wanted to stop because he can’t stand people complaining, he could stop (it’d be a whole process but I’m just trying to make a point). Part of the reason people are so impatient, Chicken, is because we’re not informed of what’s going on in your life until it’s passed a lot of the time, so we have ABSOLUTELY NO context as to WHY you aren’t updating. I feel like I’m in the minority of readers, recently. I trust that whatever you’re doing that isn’t translating is important, and that every break has a good reason behind it.

  518. I must say I really appreciate the fact that you add names before the dialogues. While some may dislike it regarding originality and what not, I find it useful because without the Japanese grammar it is sometimes hard to tell which line belongs to whom. I hope more translators will at least consider this method even if they don’t end up using it.

  535. They’re definitely releasing the whole story in LN in America, with the 5th one coming out Halloween. I’ve asked Chicken before about translating arcs 1-3, he said no said from chapters with Rem (if I remember right)
    The story is either on or past LN 14 in Japan, and the popularity of the series practically guarantees English releases for the whole story… eventually, anyway. It’s a long story already

    1. I think Chicken considered translating side stories and some conversations with Puck. He might also have mentioned something about Rem, but I can’t remember that.

      I do think that if there’s going to be a chapter where the earlier conversations with Puck are important, he will translate those chapters first though, like he did with “The Girl in the Forbidden Library”.

      If you’re using a laptop, reduce the screen brightness as well.

    Thank you for all the hard work, I enjoy reading a lot. I am curious about exactly how many death-loops in the novel were cut from the anime? Because when Subaru mentioned he died 16 times, I cant seem to count all 16 even including the one loop about Beatrice remembering Rem which you so thoughtfully translated for us.

    1. Only one was actually cut I believe, it was merged with another loop(the second to last one).
      That loop, Petelgeuse was captured alive and was taken towards the Sanctuary with all the refugees. Petelgeuse self detonated and possessed another body en route and Subaru with Wilhelm and Julius fought a full sized battle/ambush against the Witch Cult, Emilia battled Petelgeuse, killed him and Subaru got possessed and was killed by Felix think.

  608. Fun fact : Regulus is the proper name of the star that was approved by the International Astronomical Union on July 20, 2016. It is a traditional name that comes from the Latin (“wren”) and is at the base of the constellation.
    If we refer to when the webnovel started, we can suggest that Subaru was transported in another world before this star was named, so it’s a bit strange that he can affirm that regulus is the name of a star in his hometown (ARC5 Chapter 33). So that’s all 😀

    2. Next re:zero season will barely animate sanctuary arc, although very unlikely to get a second season since they didn’t actually animate the very end of arc 3, where Rem gets put to sleep. But if it ever does, it won’t be before chicken finishes arc4. And if it gets another two-cour at a fast pace to get arc 4 and 5, it will probably come after the novel in japan catches up with the WN, which would also be after chicken finishes arc 5, so in the very least he’ll always be ahead.
      Also, I’d not drop reading the novel even if chicken was behind, though it’s almost impossible.

    2. He’s still translating arc four right now. As for what to do when you finish reading what has been translated, some wait for the next chapter to be released, and some read the bits of the later arcs that the main translator(Holy Chicken) or a few others have released bits of. Mostly it’s a choice of whether you want to spoil the rest for yourself or not.

  659. I know you’re head-over-heels, but keep in mind that balancing things in your life is the key to maintaining them in the long-term. Obsessing over one thing while neglecting something else is not maintainable or healthy, and generally results in a loss of both things eventually.

    I’d suggest setting a really easy translation schedule, like 1 release every Sunday, or every-other Sunday, or whatever (not necessarily a whole chapter, just as much as you feel makes for a good release).

    Then you’d still be releasing a steady amount of content, even if it wasn’t very fast, and you wouldn’t be losing progress in comparison to the web novel and getting overwhelmed.

    Just think about it. I think turning your Patreon off was a step in the wrong direction, since it makes it easier for you to fall into a rut where you don’t translate anything for months at a time. Having a slow-but-steady release schedule with Patreon turned on would be much preferred.
