It wasn’t because the Witch’s shadow reached out to tangle her arm. But instead, Minerva had intentionally stopped just before the strike would reach her.
With her fist still extended, Minerva leaned back, swaying her golden hair,
[Minerva: Look, see? She knew there was no need to dodge my punches, it’s Satella, not the Witch of Envy. Echidona, you were worrying too much]
[Echidona: ……I wonder. While I honestly admire your spirit for using your own body to test it out, those aren’t the same things. It could just be that it perceived your threat to be so negligible that it naturally didn’t react. So, Sekhmet…]

Shouting back at Minerva in the same indignant tone, Subaru objected to being left in the dark.
Pointing at Satella, who had apparently been deemed no immediate threat, Subaru looked around at the other Witches, who were unraveling from their combat stances,

And, just when Subaru was growing impatient with her lack of motion,

Seeing her hands suddenly reach out to him, Subaru’s throat froze.
Not distracted for a second or even a blink of an instant, Subaru kept his attention fixed on Satella. What would happen in the next moment? ――The tension of not knowing was like imperceptible hands toying with his mind.
His shock wasn’t because he had failed to see the hands move. Subaru clearly saw Satella’s hands move towards him. What surprised him was his own consciousness, which had quietly watched their approach to the end.
[Subaru: What…… are you, really? What… do you want with me?]
In fact, Subaru hadn’t made any useful reaction to those hands reaching towards him. Though subconsciously understanding what her gesture meant, Subaru hastily uttered those words.
As if he didn’t need to acknowledge that fact, as though he didn’t have to face it, he wrenched out the words,
[Subaru: If you’re… the one giving me the power to rewind…… why… are you……]
He didn’t know why Satella was doing this.
Or why his body, facing Satella at a distance close enough to touch, despite him time and time and again screaming commands from the depths of his consciousness, was refusing to obey him.
――Was he supposed to feel so inexplicably “Relieved” in front of her?

[Subaru: ――a?]
Still struggling with his disobedient body, Subaru belatedly reacted to the voice striking upon his eardrums. This time, it was no doubt the correct reaction to something so far outside his expectations.
Holding his breath, Subaru waited for her to continue.
In front of Satella, staring at him with her still-indiscernible expression, Subaru swallowed, as he went on waiting while time slowly passed on, until she spoke.
[Satella: ――――I will]

Mercy-killing or not, Subaru doesn’t have ill feelings for them for other reasons entirely. It’s pointless to explain this to people who lack empathy to understand it by themselves.
The short version is – Subaru is not the kind of person to hate someone off the bat. Besides, he didn’t want to hate them.
Basically, you need to torture and kill Subaru’s friend in front of him and then desecrate her body for him to start hating you to death.

they cleared their misunderstandings up. to be fair in the forest loop sub was acting super suspicious n the mansion already dying so its not as if they killed him in his sleep or anything. sub does not know the history of the witches could just be satellas power consuming everything on its own accord n not what she wanted /cursed/. if thats true then yeah i could forgive her

next time don’t speedwatch the anime or the read the novels that makes pretty clear , subaru never blamed what Rem died because she wasn’t wrong, he even mentioned this, first of Rem only killed him once and this was in 2nd loop, and why because in every loop subaru acted more supicious and he has the witch scent. in the first loop she also didn’t kill him, also witch cultist are well know to kill people see arc 3 or Rem backstory and that they targeting emilia. now you have subaru with no background this was also pointed out in arc 2 who is close to emilia and emilia never met him before than he goes in the middle of the night to emilia room yeah not supicious at all and than in the next loop he claimed to leave the mansion and yet he was hiding in the forest with a knife and watching emilia room again not supiciou all right?

nice just finished reading ayamatsu (april fools 2017) liked the craziness of it but the ending was sad. on another note i really do not understand satella at all. first of all i am pretty sure it wasnt just satella that killed the other witches thought it was humans, the dragon, or coincidence for some. so what ‘envy’ is someone that looks like her that was consumed/altered/ went mad/ by the witch genes? maybe it is because they are beings that their very existence destroys life that they accept satella? >n no minerva is not an exception< but that will be explained.

It appears due echindonas info. That witch genes get infused with you no matter u want it or not. Echindona descriped it as, she was a normal girl aswell untill the witch genes made her a witch even without her agreement. So the real question would be what exactly are the witch genes themselves? Apperently Satella the girl that looks really familiar with Emilia was forced to take the witch genes but refused and was not capeable of holding them. So to the question.
-Are witch genes the genes of the former first witches that were created with the flow of magic?
-Are they former essences of the first witches power?
-Are witch genes just manifistations of Human 7 sins and therefore a representiv must be existing making witches exist as long as humans or human nature exist?

some are more in control or i guess accepting of it body constitution wise. dona made sub ‘drink’ her spirit body to activate and disable that ‘bomb’. i have read some of it actually be spoilers until they explain petelguese past. probably is parts of the witch but if thats true then how was it collected when she is sealed. why would the cultist power differ from these witches? consuming ones memories is different then eating their bodies.

This is not inaccurate. The witch genes would be best explained as raw incarnations of Sin. This would fall in line with each witch’s respective traits. Each person, each with personalities reflective of their Sin, could indeed be infused with these genes and change them fundamentally. However, these girls probably need to display so affinity with the genes, and perhaps the genes themselves aren’t specific with their effects.

I think the main antagonist are the different kingdoms and the witch genes themselves and some lesser organisations. The point is we dont know much about the other regions or the past of this kingdone at all

roshit is dona’s cultist their is a bit more similarities then make up wearing n book reading n bullshit rattling but that would be spoilers n that ones gold. maybe it was just satellas power going out of control and not really her wanting it to happen. but the dragon fought her or something so idk. dona just blocked some things from pucks memory probably out of convenience but i do not know if he is really related to emilia or not.

The trauma on subaru from when envy engulfing the sanctuary made him refuses to look at satella’s face, eh? When actually there is no fog/shadow covering her at all. This is why i love chicken’s version. In the other version the text was too vague.

Well, the obvious twist here would be Subaru doesn’t want to acknowledge her face because it’s the same as Emilia’s. It’s been pointed out that her resemblance to Satella goes beyond just being a half elf. And she even told him her name was Satella the first time they met.
I honestly can’t think of another reason to not show or describe her face except for the ‘shock’ value of that reveal.

An irrational love towards someone you don’t know … something like Subaru with Emilia and it was caused by the ability to “return from death”. And who is the only character besides Subaru that we know can use this ability? Maybe Satella and Subaru met in the past, but for some reason she came back to a point before meeting Subaru. It is very possible that she can do this because as far as we know she controls the point to which Subaru returns.

Hey chicken I’m gonna take a break with the reading cuz of few extra exams have came up.
Also I’m feeling very sorry for changing the translator and read all the way to the end of Arc 4 but I feel very happy about the fact that after comparing to the other your posts are much more pepper and meaningful.
And once my exams are over, I’ll watch the anime again and read from the Arc 3 part so that I can reconnect with the plot.

It has been a long and difficult time, but finally we have achieved a major victory. Finally our glorious leader has initiated the counter-offensive and shown her sanity and feelings towards Subaru. After a long time of having to endure the one-sided situation, it is our time to shine.
On a side note, it seems that the “Witches Gene” will be a key factor in future developments. We shouldn’t forget that Subaru is also in possession of it, as such there is certainly material for interesting development.

to me beako is a kuudere. she started off cold and indifferent to others then warming up after meeting subaru. i do find it rather hard to believe that she was not created with sub in mind after all its only sub that thinks he cant contract both dona n beako. probably coincidence i doubt dona looks into the ‘future’ that often. my guess is her book is just a prediction algorithm of whats most likely going to happen/past and updates when things differ. i think its subs personality of going back n forth from cold hard logic to doing things purely on emotion.

Kuudere are cool-headed, self-controlled, and often seem less emotional than others. They can often seem indifferent.
Tsundere, while often known for violent behavior, are really more about their openly hostile attitudes, hiding they do actually enjoy a person’s company and outright denying their actual positive feelings. For instance, Subaru does develop a respectful near-friendship with Julius, but develops a tsundere attitude, maintaining that he hates him when he really doesn’t.

yeah ram is a tsundere. on julius you can respect someone while still thinking they are annoying. kinda funny how he keeps pointing out his flaws not a bad thing if julius does not recognize that he is not a ‘perfect knight’ then how is he going to change and get better.

Ram is a Sadodere (sadistic). Not in the 50 Shades sense. Watch Blend S for a better idea of what the Sadodere is like in anime terms. It tends towards mistreating others for self-amusement, but in an emotional sense rather than a physical one.

I can see where you’d reach that conclusion. But the Tsundere trope is notorious for pushing love interests away for a variety of different reasons, most of them quite valid. The fear of being betrayed, abandoned, losing a sense of Independence due to immaturity on either side. Within this particular narrative, her loneliness clashes with her mission given to her by Dona, only we found out earlier that the mission itself hinged on Beatrice’s subjective view of the people she came in contact with and the person she is waiting for. She had no clear directive or description as to who, and so her loneliness and willingness to die has obscured her view even further.

When Satella spoke for the first time in this chapter I got chills. It’s crazy to have the split personality thorey thats been going around for awhile now confirmed. Unlike the Witch of Envy I feel a sense of sympathy for Satella, dispite all the destruction she’s caused. Even though as a reader I don’t have all the answers I still feel the same way the other witches do, angry but sympathetic.

I think Satella is actually Emilia from future . I mean we know that she(Satella) have some kind of time controlling magic. And we already seen how Emilia is becoming more and more obsessed with Subaru. So maybe in some point in future she will lose Subaru and became “envy” towards all that love she was getting from Subaru. And somehow go back in time to take over Satella body.

I questioned this as well. However, after reading what Chicken translated of Arc 6 and what happens to Subaru there, I realized how it was possible for him to be on Laguna for 400 years, and yet become conscious of the world in the Capitol with all his belongings as if he’d just arrived. Try reading it and comparing his situation there with a similar situation that someone else is in and note how different his situation is to that other person’s. Build from that and consider the physical effects that can occur when Memories of the World change.

My thought on this is that
Subaru had met with satella inside a game (since he was skipping school and played games all day, similar to the situation in”gin no guardian” ) where satella fell for him and became obsessed with him, but then he suddenly quitted that game due to which she felt lonely again and summoned him in that world.( Since he talked like it’s a game like situation and he also called beako as his first NPC encounter also he has his save point).
But due to herself being sealed inside he got summoned 400 years later (she might’ve been accumulating Mana for 400 years) and since there was not enough Mana his memories from past were not complete and due to which he doesn’t remember her but he has a certain feeling for her which he doesn’t accept.

Except for love, I wonder what else does she want from Subaru?? Why did she give Subaru the Return by Death power? I agree with Echidna completely. There is no reason at all to discern Satella and Envy. Split personalities or not it is still one person and still really dangerous one, regardless of active personality. Especially, when we just have learned that the one who devoured 50% of the world and 6 Witches was Satella, not Envy. I don’t also see any reason to treat Envy worse, than Satella, just the opposite. Even if Satella was affected by the Witch genes, at this point it doesn’t matter anymore. And obviously this Witches’ “trust” in Satella is just nonsense. This trust is based on nothing. She already devoured them once, nothing can stop her to repeat that.
